There will be 3.78 miles of multi-use trails for use by bikers and pedestrians. The trails network runs within a short distance of every house in the project and gives access to the commercial district. The trials run the perimeter of the community, giving everyone the chance to enjoy the bluffs, open space, and river access.
Over 95 acres of Open Space are to be set aside within the boundaries of La Plata Ranch™. A network of trails will run through the Open Space lands. The Open Space will be situated a short distance from all the homes in the community. The Open Space will include the flood plain near the river, the trail system facing the bluffs, and the banks of the river itself.
The city of Farmington has installed a Riverine Plan for the Animas, Farmington and La Plata rivers. Our community will protect the river in line with the Riverine Plan by creating public access and preserving the hiking trails along the river. La Plata Ranch™ will donate up to 80 feet of river property to the city so that the river trail access will be assured for generations to come.
Inside La Plata there will be four neighborhood parks, a community park and a trailhead with parking and public access to the trail system. The parks will have basketball, volleyball, play structures, lawns, picnic areas – and an amphitheatre for outdoor performances of music, dance and children’s events. The parks are strategically scattered throughout the community to provide easy park access to all the homes.
